During our visit, we were welcomed by Nick, the owner, who took us on a fascinating guided tour of the site. It was a brilliant opportunity to discover more about the impressive collection of military vehicles, learn about their history and understand what makes these machines so special.
There’s something quite extraordinary about standing next to a tank and appreciating just how big, powerful and imposing these vehicles really are. They certainly make your average family car look rather insignificant!
But the real excitement was still to come.
After our tour, Simon was given the opportunity to climb aboard and take control of a tank. Now, driving a tank isn’t quite like popping down to the shops in your car. Forget your steering wheel, indicators and reversing camera. Instead, you’re faced with levers, controls and a whole lot of machinery.
With instructions in hand, Simon took to the driving seat and headed out around the course.
There was mud, water, uneven tracks and plenty of bouncing around as the tank made its way through the challenging terrain. Pulling the levers left and right, Simon soon discovered that manoeuvring one of these enormous machines is quite an experience.
It’s certainly not something you get to put on your everyday driving CV!
The experience was exhilarating, entertaining and thoroughly enjoyable. There’s something rather special about taking control of a vehicle that was designed for military use and putting it through its paces in a safe and controlled environment.
